We are delighted to announce our partnership with CGI UK who are now proud sponsors of our Internet Safety scenario. Our Internet Safety scenario allows our visitors to talk to K-os, an interactive, friendly alien avatar! K-os, who has become DangerPoint’s mascot over the years, comes to life on screen and the children and young people can have a two-way conversation with him about the dangers of the internet and how they can keep themselves safe whilst online gaming and using social media. K-os asks the children and young people questions about which games and apps they might use, how they can create a strong password, whether they should share photographs online, how to change their online settings to have a safer experience and much more. K-os is a fun and creative way of delivering these important safety messages and allows us to be relevant and keep up to date with any current internet safety issues that children and young people are facing. Often the children teach us a thing or two about what’s ‘trending’!
According to the Office for National Statistics almost 9 in 10 children (89%) aged 10 to 15 years old said they went online every day and while the majority of children said they only spoke to or exchanged messages with people online who they knew in person, around one in six children (17%) aged 10 to 15 years, spoke with someone they had never met before (equivalent to 682,000 children) during the previous year (Census 2021). Unfortunately, illegal, and harmful content and activity is widespread online. 62% of adult internet users and over 80% of children (aged 12-15) have had potentially harmful experiences online (GOV.UK), which is why it is so important that we continue to educate children and young people about the potential dangers of using the internet as well as how to best prevent and report any harmful activity. We are living in a world where our children have easy access to the internet and where technology is ever advancing, so it’s never been more important to equip the next generation with the tools and skills to deal with the online world.
