We’ve had an exciting few weeks here at DangerPoint!
Not only have we had new carpet and flooring in our Home scenario and updates in the bedroom including new furniture and a lick of paint- our recycling rockets have also had a complete makeover and we ‘relaunched’ (see what we did there?!) at the end of the summer holidays with the public experiencing the brand new additions for the first time on August 22nd and our first school trialling them last week.
Those of you who have visited before may remember our rockets used to require actual physical recyclable items to fill the boosters in order to help our friendly alien, K-os, blast off! Those items are now no more and have been replaced by two state-of-the-art, giant touchscreens! Visitors will learn all about the waste hierarchy and must decide whether to reduce, reuse, recycle, recover, or dispose varying materials by touching the answer they believe to be correct. Not only this, they’ll also learn all about each section of the waste hierarchy and how we can best look after the world around us by making better choices.
Updating this scenario has been a big job! From brainstorming ideas with our Rangers and with children and young people, as well as researching how using the waste hierarchy effectively can lead to the best outcomes for our environment, now and in the future. Our Deputy Manager, Cat, had the tricky job of creating all the slides which make up the challenge- not only in English but in Welsh too!
We would like to say a huge thank you to Piranha who installed the new additions as well as enfinium who kindly funded the project.
